CB checked surf early, met Debbie, a surf-stoked local legend. Walked to Waimea all four us plus our new tour guide Debbie. Walk past Eric Arakawa's house on the way. Waimea was huge. Probably 4-6 times overhead, went through to the East side of the bay, immense waves everywhere. Tow-in surfing on the second reef at Alligator's.
Biggest Waves we've ever seen - Ambulances flying around waiting for the clean-up sets.
Took a trip to Honolulu, looks a lot like Japan! Surfed Ala Moana bowls, a crap beach break with a lava reef. Got dropped in on and returned the favour. CF had an episode with a bodyboarder. Out surfed the not-so-locals.
Tested out the car horn in the city and pressured a tourist into driving through a red light.
Rod Sumpter's book is a load of toss. Hopeless maps, poor info, descriptions of the surf breaks are poor and he's giving us a shark complex. Every description includes a warning about heavy localism and sharks. "Dog's" Rod Sumpter.
Returned to the North Shore. all beaches closed our due to the huge swell.
Met our landlord and landlady, Mark and Katie. Went to check the surf at Alligator's, met up with Debbie, a guy from Florida called Brody, Mark & Katie and our Neighbours Mitch & Logan.. Returned to the house for a case of Corona to share with our new friends and watch the last sunset of 2005. Very entertaining. Went to Debbie's for dinner, right behind our house. Returned, got drunk.
The taffies are making friends everywhere. Go Team Helmet. Josh came by our house, he'd surfed Waimea this afternoon with a crazy Hawaiian, a short pocket rocket called Larry - one of the most deranged people we've ever met - possibly a by-product of surfing the biggest waves we've ever seen!
