5th January 2006

Huge swells, lots of wind on it. Dave returned from checking the surf, he'd been coconut scrumping!

Headed west again due to the winds, tracks was rammed and small. Makaha was large and windy. As we pulled up, Logan and Mitch spotted us and pointed us towards a left across from the main break.

It looked amazing, and only 3 guys out! Logan & Mitch had surfed it for a while before we arrived. It was good, double overhead plus on the sets and barrelling. It appears we are getting a reputation for "rent-a-crowd" - within 30 minutes of us getting in the water, 20 guys appear in the line-up. Drop-ins were once again the order of the day. Cindy got some great photos and we went around their house for a slide show in the evening. Great photos - team helmet are taking it to the masses!

The highlight of the day was the turtles. CB had one pop-up next to him, Logan actually got to pat one.

Dave's experience was definitely a contrast to this; a turtle popped up to get some air and was greeted by a crazy looking Welshman screaming and generally going mental. Dave obviously thought the turtle was a shark and followed the advice of experienced Hawaiian surfers by getting all aggressive. Ah... the curse of the travelling North Shore surfer, the deadly, fearless, all-conquering, lethal turtle shark. What a berk.
