6th January 2006

Checked surf with Debbie, quite a bit of wind at Alligators so we headed for Ali'i. 3-4ft and clean. The Welsh boys paddled straight into the peak all exited and hooting everyone's waves. Had 2 hours of fun. Debbie off work all day, so we all hung out together. Debbie showed us Jack Johnson's house; she knows his dad - apparently he's super-cool! Went to a sandwich bar in Hale'iwa, sat next to four Californians in their late forties. They asked if it was our crew that had just paddled out at Ali'i hooting all their waves - they were stoked. They agreed with Debbie that it was refreshing to see people with so much enthusiasm for surfing. We rule!

Returned to Ali'i, wind had picked up and Logan was attempting to get his mother to photograph ladies on the beach. Chilled out and then went to Hale'iwa Joe's for Mai Tais, very tasty. What a great day!

Had our first encounter with the Cane Spider. Caught it and put it in a saucepan for photos. CB released it and, instead of returning to its hiding place, it ran straight for him at some speed, right up until the point that it received the base of the saucepan on the head. DT, nearly in tears, complained that "it was a big part of the food chain.." It's now a big part of the Driveway.
